Thanks to Frenchie Mummy for the nomination for the #TheDaddyTag, its taken me a bit a longer to get round to answering the questions but I’ve either been busy, enjoying myself or sleeping.
◾Are you a Stay at Home Daddy or a Working Daddy?
I work full time; I’m a social worker, so pretty much hated by most members of society and media. Very stressful job and for obvious reason I don’t talk about it much on my blog or social media.
◾Would you have it any other way?
Yes absolutely, I would love to be at home with Effy all day; it was really tough going back to work after my paternity leave. I feel like I’m missing all the good stuff and weekends are too short. If anyone fancies paying me to be at home all day, I’d welcome any offers.
◾Do you co-change dirty nappies? Even the very smelly ones?
Surely there aren’t still blokes out there who don’t change nappies………..I’ve been subjected to some utterly disgusting incidents. She’s shit on my leg, shit in the bath, shit up her back, shit on the floor, shit all over the place. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll try every trick in the book to avoid a nappy change, but my OH is much brighter than me, so she falls for nothing.
◾A little fairy gives you the possibility of breastfeeding? Are you going for it or do you run away?
Firstly if I’m getting breasts, id need a day or 2 to enjoy those, then yeah id give it ago. I wrote about our experiences with breastfeeding for The newborn feeding series hosted by Everything’s Rosie and George. Things never really went according to plan for us and Effy was exclusively bottle fed from day 1. From a selfish point of view, it meant I could be more involved. I liked that, so if me getting some weird milk producing man breasts, meant I could be more involved….I’m in.
◾What is the one must-have item for a daddy?
The internet…..Might sound like a strange one but for a new, first time dad….Google is your best friend. At times I’m not ever looking for answers, just reassurance that we aren’t doing something wrong or Effy isn’t some odd alien baby that’s possessed.
◾How many kids do you plan on having?
2 so we’ve got 1 more to go. OH initially wanted 3 but that was before the horrendous labour, sleepless nights and shitty nappies
◾Lads’ nights? How often do you have them?
Not as often as we’d all like but I have managed to get a lads weekend away this year so I cant complain. Most of us have kids, are married or have long term girlfriends, so lads nights out are very different to what they used to be. We go to the local pub, have a few pints and are back home before Match of the Day.
◾Your children’s favourite achievement?
She’s only 10 months old so she’s not won any trophies or wrestled an alligator yet but she learns new things everyday. I’m utterly amazed at how quickly she is developing.
◾What is your best memory with your kid(s)?
This is super super soppy but when Effy was only a few months old, my OH was getting changed upstairs and me and Effy were in the conservatory. We have quite a lot of Sonos speakers in our house and I had Paul Weller playing……Broken Stones came on and I was holding Effy…. for the 3minutes 22 seconds that the song lasts….I danced with her….I held her very close and just danced. Its not a particularly soppy song but the love, pride and some other girly feelings that I felt in those few minutes felt very special. I’m certainly not going to win any dances prizes but I will always remember that moment.
◾Name one thing you miss since being a daddy?
Spending a full day on the couch watching Netflix with my OH. We are both quite lazy people and used to love spending a Sunday watching TV, eating crap and wearing comfy clothes.
◾Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now? And we mean YOU DADDY, not the mummy!
I don’t think I’ve actually put any weight on. I’ve always been fairly thin and have tended to keep myself fairly fit, by playing football and doing a bit of weight training. Since having Effy my weight training has not been as regular as I’d like but I still play football twice a week. I’m defineitly less fit than i was 12 months ago and I’ve lost quite a lot of definition. I have promised the OH, I’d have a 6pack again by her birthday in the November. I’ve just ate a full ‘share’ bag of M&M’s though so she might have to settle for a 4 pack.
◾Dream holiday with your kids?
Disneyland in Florida, I went when I was younger and was amazed. I’d love to give Effy the same level of excitement.
◾Dream holiday without your kids or even without the other half? (You’re allowed to dream)
Me and the OH were going to go to New York for Christmas last year for my 30 but Effy kind of got in the way of that. We would both love to still go, especially around Christmas time.
◾How has your life changed since having kids?
I get up earlier and I’ve got less money.
◾Finish the sentence “It makes my heart melt when…”
Effy gives me a kiss.
◾Favourite beers brands and football team?
Im more of a cider drinker and I’m a Manchester Untied fan.
◾Huggies or Pampers?
Neither…..we get all our nappies at Aldi and wipes at Asda. We bought loads of huggies wipes before Effy was born and absolutely hated them. We now use them to clean the high chair.
◾Have you always wanted kids?
Yes absolutely, I have always said I wanted children before I turned 30, left it late but Effy was born 3 months before my 30th birthday.
◾Best part of being a dad?
Knowing that I’m someone’s dad.
Frenchie mummy I hope this is ok… please tell me if its not……instead of nominating any dad bloggers, I’m going to ask 3 of my dad mates to answer the questions. I will post the answers on my blog and link it back to the #TheDaddyTag
